Come join us for our one-year anniversary party, where we’ll be screening the only non-indie you’ll ever see on our screens (and a classic from the angst-ridden apex of our beloved Generation X): The seminal rom-com classic Reality Bites that we loved so much in high school.
Call us sentimental, but we just thought it would make a really good drinking game, and we’re in the mood to party.
Very important drinking game instructions:
Make friends with your neighbor, and make sure they’re not cheating. Here are the rules:
- When Winona Ryder makes a sad puppy face: YELL ‘PUPPY’ AND TAKE A SHOT!
- Whenever Ethan Hawke sneers: YELL ‘SNEER’ AND TAKE A SWIG!
- Whenever Ben Stiller looks smug: YELL ‘SMUG’ AND MAKE A SMUG FACE!
- Whenever Janeane Garofalo says something funny: LOUDLY LAUGH ‘HA HA HA’
- It’s a free-for-all during the My Sharona scene!
And then, when you’re well and truly pickled, you can enjoy free food by winning one of our raffle prizes from local businesses (Two Boots Pizza, Stories Cafe & Bookstore, Masa of Echo Park, Brite Spot, and more.)
Tuesday, August 10th
Come at 7:45PM, film starts at 8PM
Echo Park Film Center (1200 N Alvarado St.)
As always: $5** and something to drink & share
**Your admission fee is split between the non-profit Echo Park Film Center and not-for-profit CS to pay for cups, websites, promoting the next indie film we show.
You Say You Forgot About Reality Bites?
Reality Bites is a 1994 American romcom written by Helen Childress and featuring the directorial debut of Ben Stiller. Starring Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo and Steve Zahn, the film centers on Lelaina (Ryder), an aspiring filmmaker working on a documentary called Reality Bites about the disenfranchised lives of her friends and roommates (Hawke, Garofalo, and Zahn). Their challenges, both documented and not, exemplify some of the career and lifestyle choices faced by Generation X. Watch the trailer here.
