FAQ:

Q: What’s a drink-a-long?
A: It’s kind of like a sing-a-long, but with beer. Just like your favorite drinking games of yester-year, upon the agreed upon cues (see below) everyone drinks! It’s a fun way to party with the CS:SF crew and watch your favorite cult classic, all in one!Q: Okay, but I don’t/can’t/won’t drink.
A: Don’t worry, you won’t have to! You can still cheer and boo and knock back your soda water and lime with the rest of us. No one’s judging you (we’re just looking at you like that ‘cuz we think you’re kinda cute).

Q: But I thought Cinema Speakeasy was all about exhibiting and celebrating the best in independent film?

A: Of course we are, silly! But we thought it’d be fun to take a night off and watch an old favorite. We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming next month.

Q: Okay, I’m in. What are the rules?

A: We’re glad you asked!

Make friends with your neighbor, and make sure they’re not cheating.
- Every time a new gang comes on the scene: DRINK!
- Every time Cyrus says, “Can you dig it!”: HI-FIVE the person next to you!
- Every time they (barely) make the subway: CHEER! And cheers the person next to you!
- Every time the Warriors win a fight: Yell “WARRIORS!” and drink!

Q: Anything else?
A: Yes! Come dressed as your favorite gang character from the movie (FROM THE MOVIE. No bandanas, or whatever the kids are doing these days) and receive a free raffle ticket. CAN YOU DIG IT???

WRAP REPORT

By all accounts, this past week’s Cinema Speakeasy: San Francisco was a smash hit, and we couldn’t be more delighted. Thanks to our friends over at the Thrillist and FunCheapSF for letting the people know about the WARRIORS drink-along. In case you missed it, here’s a quick recap:

CAN YOU DIG IT?: Good thing there’s no noise ordinance at GAFFTA, because the roar of the audience after perhaps the most famous line of the movie, matched only by the clanking of cheersing PBRs, was riotus. The energy kept up throughout the whole movie, peppered by shout out louds, warnings, one-liners, and oh, SNAPS! directed at the characters on-screen. What fun!

Folks dressed up! Oh, how it warmed our hearts to see some Lizzies in the audience as well as the Hi-Hats,  who looked especially smashing in their bowler hats and boots.  We even got a patch to put up in our offices one day!  When we get offices!  One day!

Folks that dressed up won prizes!: Good things happen when you participate. For being good sports, we gave all of those who dressed up free raffle tickets, and two of the three winners were the ones that dressed up. Big thanks to our homies at Beautiful/Decay, Funky Door Yoga, and Dancing Regeneration Massage for donating such lovely prizes.

You guys really know your Warriors, huh?: To get everyone warmed up and in full Warriors effect mode, we tossed a couple of trivia questions out to the crowd. Who knew that the same woman who plays the radio DJ is also the voice of the popular tv show, “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?”  YOU knew!!  Smartypants.

Lowlights:

Sold OUT!: Oh, how we HATE to turn folks away! We reached both seating and standing room capacity before the movie even started. We’re working on setting up pre-sales so that you’ll have a better idea of when shows are sold-out before you make the trek.

(That’s the only low light.  Everything else was pretty great.)

It was a wonderful night and we look forward to future drink-alongs.  For April, we’re back to our regularly awesome scheduled program of celebrating the best indie films that flew under the radar, along with fun games, prizes, and some seriously good-looking film lovers.  Stay tuned!!
