Theodor Adorno once said that “art is magic delivered from the lie of being truth.” Well, we love magic and lies. Which means we love art.
While we still wonder if we’ll ever be able to survive by creating our own, we at least can support the filmmakers who make arty films about the arts (so very meta!).
To that end, Cinema Speakeasy LA is seeking short films relating to the esoteric, the useless, the arts.
We want films that are as beautiful/ edgy/ provocative as the subjects they portray. So: Short films about design, fashion, theater, music, woodwork, baton twirling, beading, sculpting, comics, make up, photography, writing, painting… You get the idea.
- Title of film
- Name & location of the director
- Name & location of the producer
- Link to a video of the film (please, under twelve minutes)
Also, please submit a photo of something that you think deserves the name ‘art’. We’re going to be making something from the photos – maybe even some art of our own. After all, as Fleur Adcock said: “Art is whatever you choose to frame.”
Submissions are due by March 15.
Screening to be held in April in Los Angeles.
